New Ideas for Self Care

We all have such busy, demanding lives. To deal with the stress that comes along with a hectic schedule, we hear that self-care is the answer. Self care Sunday - get your nails done, watch Netflix, etc. I whole-heartedly believe in self care and agree that you should practice it. However, I think we gloss over true self care by slapping a face mask on it and calling it a day. So, I’m going to give you some new ideas for self care. Save this as a reminder for different self care ideas when you need them.

Beauty

  • Face mask

  • Manicure/pedicure

  • Hair mask

  • Teeth whitening

  • Moisturize

  • Get your hair done

  • Improve your skin care routine & stick to it

  • Taking time to get ready 

  • Exfoliate

  • Self-tan

  • Get your eyebrows/eyelashes done

  • Wear a cute outfit

  • Go shopping - buy yourself something

Spiritual

  • Pray

  • Spend time in the Word

  • Seek spiritual guidance

  • Find regular mentorship/guidance

  • Volunteer 

  • Spend time in quite/solitude

  • Listen to a sermon

  • Journal

  • Listen to worship music

  • Join a small group/Bible study

  • Donate (practice trust with your resources)

Physical

  • Work out

  • Brush your teeth

  • Take a shower or bath

  • Cook or bake

  • Make a doctor’s/dentist appointment and go

  • Take your medication

  • Be willing to change your medications so they work best for you

  • Take deep breaths

  • Stretch

  • Yoga

  • Take a walk

  • Organize cluttered places in your home/office

  • Go out for fun

  • Go outside -sit in a park, take a walk

  • Go on a hike

  • Go kayaking, canoeing, sailing, etc

  • Go window shopping

  • Listen to live music 

  • Go to a comedy show

  • Go for a bike ride

  • Pet/play with your pet

  • Cuddle

  • Hydrate

  • Sing

  • Play an instrument

  • Decorate your home to make it feel like a calming environment

Emotional/Social

  • Read a book

  • Take a day off

  • Take a few days off- go on a trip big or small

  • See your family, catch up with them

  • Create a practical and consistent morning & night routine

  • Step away from the screen - set boundaries & time limits

  • Delete unused apps on your phone/ declutter your phone

  • Do something nice/meaningful for someone else

  • Light a candle

  • Therapy or counseling

  • Call a friend

  • Have a group FaceTime or zoom

  • Have a difficult conversation that you’ve been putting off 

  • Meditate

  • Brain dump - write everything you’re thinking down on paper
