Rethink Your 2021 Health Goals

The start of a New Year is quickly approaching! It’s time to reflect on 2020 and set some resolutions for 2021. What’re your New Year resolutions? If you’re like most people, you’ve probably already set some resolutions related to being healthier, losing weight, exercising, or finally giving up *[fill in the blank with a food].* If you’re like most people, you probably have the best intentions to make this goal a priority & to finally “get on track.” Lastly, if you’re like most people, you’ll likely catch yourself mid-February caught up in old habits, possibly feeling more “out of control,” and maybe even beating yourself up for not having enough will power to stick to your goals, lose weight, or for gaining more weight! 

Does this sound familiar to you? As a registered dietitian that hears this story time and time again, my bet is yes- it does sound familiar to you. I see clients get stuck in this cycle which ultimately intensifies negative body image, negative self-talk, harmful health behaviors, and their relationships with food. This makes it more difficult to live a healthy life and makes caring for yourself a big, confusing, chaotic chore. I don’t want that for you. What I do want is for you to live your healthiest life with food and body peace. I want you to stop holding out on yourself, hoping that the next diet, the next year, will be “the one” that gives you everything you ever wanted. I want to give you tools to start decreasing the time, energy, and resources you invest in food and body thoughts & start pouring those precious resources into doing what you were created to do.

Our New Year resolutions typically fall by the wayside for a few reasons:

  • They’re too “big picture”

  • They aren’t measurable

  • They’re based on a surface-level “why”

I will be hosting a virtual workshop with Nectar Yoga Studios to help you begin to break this exhausting cycle. In this workshop you will learn how to set resolutions that are practical for your life and identify your “why” behind your goals. We’ll uncover what true health feels like to you outside of your weight, size or shape. Let’s be mindful about more than what our bodies look like and our calorie intake this year. Let’s focus on being mindful about how we set ourselves up for success, what we’re working towards & how we measure health. From there we can let our mindfulness and intentionally spill over onto our plates!
